Mandie Sousley

Mandie plays a key role in preserving and promoting Swannanoa’s historic legacy both professionally and personally.

Mandie’s journey to Virginia began with a leap of faith, following her aunt Adrianne and uncle Jeremy for a fresh start in the mountains. Originally from Galveston Texas, she relocated with her now-husband and quickly fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains, where she discovered Swannanoa and the inspiring legacy of Walter and Lao Russell.

Her involvement began in 2018 as a volunteer with the University of Science and Philosophy (USP). In March 2024, she officially stepped into her role as Director of Operations Assistant. Soon after, in April 2024, she also joined the Swannanoa’s team as Marketing and Director’s Assistant, helping to manage its rich history as a cultural landmark. Swannanoa—once home to Walter and Lao Russell—welcomes the community through seasonal events, including historic tours, weddings, photoshoots, and more.

Mandie’s connection to Swannanoa is both professional and deeply personal—she and her husband got married on its front steps in October 2024, under the glow of the aurora borealis. She also maintains the Swannanoa Gatekeeper Cottage Airbnb, offering guests the same opportunity to fall in love with the mountain as she did years ago. Outside of work, Mandie and her husband are proud pet parents to their beloved miniature dachshund, Miss Mocha Bean.
