Virginia Street Arts Festival

🎨 Big news for The Russell Museum—and for downtown Waynesboro!

We’re thrilled to share that The Russell Museum will be getting its own mural as part of the 2026 Virginia Street Arts Festival!

Taking place May 16–17, this beloved annual festival brings artists from across the country to transform downtown with vibrant, large-scale public art, live mural painting, music, and family-friendly activities.

This year, one of those new works—“Long Light – Black Bear” by artist Humble—will be created right on the exterior of The Russell Museum, adding to the growing collection of murals that make Waynesboro a destination for art lovers.

It’s also a meaningful reminder that Walter Russell was an artist first, before all the many things he is now remembered for—making this mural an especially fitting celebration of that legacy.

We invite everyone to come out and see the mural in progress, celebrate with us, and enjoy a full weekend of live music, special programming, and community festivities. It’s a perfect chance to experience art as it happens and be part of something lasting in our city.

We can’t wait to see you there!
