Calvin Woodson - Memoirs With Walter and Lao Russell
Calvin Carter Woodson is a lifelong resident of the Staunton/Augusta area. Calvin married his high school sweetheart Ruth Shirley Crawford in 1955. They were married for 59 years and had six children.
During his lifetime, Calvin has been afforded the opportunity to work for several reputable families. He was a house manager and butler for Dr. Franklin Hanger and WW Raffetea of Abneal Farms. Calvin was employed by Helen K. Groves as her personal caterer for 20 years. In addition, Calvin and his wife Ruth worked for Dr. and Mrs. Russell. Calvin was a guide at Swannanoa and the Russell’s butler. His wife Ruth was Mrs. Russell’s secretary.
During this time with the Russells, he was exposed and became interested in Dr. Russell’s teachings and writings about science and spiritually. Dr. Russell often shared his love of science and art with him. Calvin was a business owner for over 50 years. He was involved in multiple organizations that made a difference in the local and surrounding communities.
